About Lift NYC Pilates
What kind of results can I expect from Pilates?
Consistent Pilates practice tends to create a body that’s strong, lean, aligned, and balanced. You can expect improved posture, better core strength, more flexibility, and toned muscles — especially in the core, glutes, and legs. It’s less about “bulking” and more about building long, stable muscles that support functional, graceful movement.
Think sculpted, not stacked. Many dancers, athletes, and models use Pilates as a foundational practice because it builds strength without sacrificing mobility.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact movement system designed to build core strength, improve flexibility, and enhance overall body awareness. It emphasizes control, alignment, breath, and precise movement — making it as mentally engaging as it is physically effective.
Who is Pilates for?
Pilates is for everyone — truly. Whether you’re new to fitness, recovering from injury, cross-training, pre/postnatal, or looking to deepen your connection to your body, Pilates meets you where you are and helps you move better, feel stronger, and reduce pain.
Why is Reformer Pilates superior to Mat Pilates?
Both have benefits, but reformer Pilates offers more versatility and support through spring-based resistance. It allows for deeper strength work, better alignment guidance, and more tailored modifications — which means faster progress, more control, and a safer experience for all levels.
How often do I need to do it to see results?
You’ll feel the difference after just a few sessions, but for real transformation, we recommend 2–3 times per week. Consistency matters — even once a week will move the needle, but twice or more per week is where strength, posture, and movement patterns really start to shift.
If I only do Pilates, is that enough of an exercise program?
Yes — for many people, reformer Pilates can be a complete fitness program, especially when done consistently. It strengthens, stretches, and stabilizes. That said, if you have specific cardio, endurance, or sport-performance goals, we may recommend combining it with strength training or other forms of movement.
What kind of Pilates do you offer?
We are a dedicated reformer Pilates studio, offering both small group classes and private sessions. Reformer Pilates allows for more versatility, support, and challenge—making it an ideal choice whether you’re new or experienced.
What makes your classes different?
Even in a group setting, our classes are highly personal and instructor-attentive, with only four reformers in the studio. You’ll never feel like just a number here—expect detailed cues, hands-on corrections, and a boutique experience every time.
Where is the Pilates studio located?
Our new reformer Pilates studio is located at 171 W 80th St, right in the heart of the Upper West Side. (Our strength training location is moving to 2212 Broadway.)
How much do classes cost?
You can check out this page, which has all of the credits and memberships we currently offer.
Do class packs expire?
Yes — we recommend the following expirations to encourage consistency:
- 6-Pack: expires in 6 weeks
- 12-Pack: expires in 3 months
- 24-Pack: expires in 5 months
Let us know if you’ll be traveling—we’re happy to accommodate special circumstances.
What’s the flow of a typical class?
- Doors open 5 minutes before class time (if you arrive early)*
- First 5 minutes: Shoes off, find your reformer, settle in
- 40–45 minutes: Guided, mindful movement
- 5 minutes: Cool down and reset
- Final 5 minutes: Shoes back on, pack up, and you’re out the door
*We open doors just 5 minutes before class begins to preserve the flow and atmosphere of the session in progress.
